Part of our passion at Savor is to look ahead at the trends of the upcoming years, so we can bring to you and your customers the best options before anyone else. While we have yet to perfect our time machine so our product development department can find exactly what flavors lie ahead, here are some flavor trends we will be keeping an eye on.

Trend 1: Health-Conscious Consumers

A cultural shift has happened in the last few years, with consumers taking a real look at the ingredients of foods and drinks they eat every day, where they come from, and how the use and creation of said ingredients affect their bodies and the global economy. In 2026, that mentality will likely continue, with consumers increasingly looking for seasonings with no artificial additives or preservatives and no artificial colors. There will likely also be an increase in demand for organic, non-GMO, and sustainably sourced spices as consumers continue to make moves towards shopping small and locally from small businesses and farmers. We are prepared for these shifts and are proactively working to set our customers up for success.

Trend 2: Global Focus

It’s been mentioned before on this platform, but the popularity and connectivity brought on by short-from content in spaces like TikTok and YouTube has changed the market in unexpected ways. People from all corners of the earth are sharing their cultures and foods, even in accounts that are not dedicated to food content. The result? Consumers who want to try global flavors and combinations they would have never heard of before, such as Japanese umami combined with Mexican heat, or Middle Eastern spices infused into American BBQ rubs.

Trend 3: Functional Seasonings

With the focus on health, the spices and ingredients that go into our favorite snacks, and the global connections happening at a faster rate than ever, consumers are discovering the health benefits of spices. Flavors such as turmeric (a southwestern Indian spice long used for its anti-inflammation properties), ginger (originally from Southeast Asia and beneficial for digestion), and cinnamon (native to Sri Lanka and used for blood sugar regulation) are gaining more attention. As consumers continue to find ways to more naturally deal with health issues, spices will be at the forefront of the conversation.

Trend 4: “Swavoury”

Similar to the “Swicy” trend we talked about here, consumers are looking to blend familiar sweet flavors and savory ones together to try something new. The mashup is referred to as “swavoury”. These flavors reach beyond the snack realm and can apply to things such as rubs, dips, and sauces. Flavors include maple-infused chili rubs and cocoa-spiced BBQ blends.

Trend 5: Ethical Consumption

Health-conscious consumers who have already made the dietary changes of eating vegetarian or vegan will likely be the ones to teach the next generation how to use seasonings that enhance plant proteins. Using smoked paprika for depth of flavor or nutritional yeast for cheesiness in dishes that traditionally call for dairy cheese are two examples of what is currently used within those diet communities. Continuing to explore new spice combinations that enhance plant-based diet flavors, as well as spices that are ethically sourced and fair-trade blends, are part of the ethically conscious trend we see in consumers in 2026.

Trend 6: Customization

Belonging to a world of individual people looking to stand out from the crowd has produced interesting results in the food world. One of those is the rise in consumers wanting personalized seasoning blends tailored to their specific taste preferences. The use of AI will likely play a large role in this trend, as AI has the ability to evaluate a consumer’s buying habits and food preferences much faster than traditional consumer trend reports. Consequently, we could see brands and restaurants offering custom spice kits or interactive seasonings, or social media content becoming focused on ways to find your personalized spice blend based on criteria such as personal taste, cultural background, or personal eating habits.

Trend 7: Gourmet Seasonings

High-end, chef-inspired spice blends are gaining popularity as consumers branch out of their comfort zone to try new flavors such as saffron, black garlic, and exotic peppers. They will likely want to see these flavors continue to find their way into the snack world, with the blend of the familiar snack and the new flavor combination giving them a potential new favorite.

2026 looks to be an exciting year for flavor, with consumers becoming increasingly health-conscious and eco-friendly in their eating habits, combining familiar snacks with new, global seasonings, and the desire to elevate their snacking experience. We are excited to see exactly what the future holds, as well as be a front-runner for change in these trends!
